Collection: Chantelle Carran

I was born in Christchurch and have lived here most of my life, apart from spending 12 years in Dunedin. I returned to Christchurch two years ago. I am married to my husband, Chris, and we have a five-year-old son, Brooks. We also have three cats.

After finishing high school, I studied Fashion Technology and Design at Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology. I then worked in Connecticut, USA, at a children’s summer camp, teaching arts and crafts. Upon returning to Christchurch after camp, I worked as a visual merchandiser in a fashion and home department store for 15 years before having my son.

While on maternity leave, I began sewing and knitting a few things for my baby and decided to try selling these products at markets. That’s when Carran Boutique was created.

I like to create cute but practical items for kids and babies. These products have been tested on my son, and I have perfected my designs over the years.

One material I particularly enjoy using is New Zealand-made vintage wool blankets. I upcycle these old blankets, saving them from landfill, and turn them into beautiful kids' vests and baby blankets. Each vest is a one-off design; no two are the same. I take pride in my attention to detail. I strive to minimise waste and use every piece of the blanket possible.

Check out Carran Boutique on Facebook, and you may also see me at craft markets around Canterbury
