Hello, I'm Gill Cowlishaw, the creative mind behind Gill's Crafts. While I was born on the West Coast, my heart and home have been in Canterbury for most of my life, with the last 35 years spent in Kaiapoi.

My journey into crafting began with my mother, a Home Science teacher and passionate craftsperson. She taught me to knit and sew, skills I cherish and continue to use today. Despite the demands of work and family, I always make time for my creative pursuits, finding solace and joy in the process.

One of my greatest pleasures is creating garments for my children and now my grandchildren. I find particular joy in crafting items that are not only beautiful but also practical, especially for friends' and colleagues' little ones.

I have a strong preference for natural materials, using New Zealand wool for knitting and cotton fabric for sewing. For baby knits, wool's ability to regulate body temperature is unmatched, while cotton offers durability and easy care.

I'm passionate about sustainability and love finding ways to repurpose leftover fabric and yarn. By blending different textures, I create sensory toys that are not only stimulating but also eco-friendly.

Crafting, for me, is more than just a hobby; it's a way to give back and connect with others. I find immense satisfaction in creating items that bring joy and utility to those around me. Moreover, crafting is my sanctuary, offering relaxation and peace amidst life's busyness.
